Fox Dollhouse season finale to come with Episode 12

April 9 2009 7 Comments

topher_echo_picFox has decided not to air all 13 episodes of Dollhouse and will instead finish the first season of the show with Episode 12.  Notice, that we said the season finale will come with Episode 12 — not the series finale.  Fox’s decision to omit the last episode from this season has no bearing on its decision to renew Dollhouse for a second season.

Felicia Day broke the news on Twitter.  Here’s her two posts:

@feliciaday: Man, day getting worse and worse. Found out my Dollhouse ep, #13 isn’t gonna air. Only on DVD. Such a great part too. Thx Fox. :(  - (2 p.m. EST 4/9/09)

@feliciaday: Thx all, to clarify seems like they’ll air #12 as the finale and not air my ep #13 at all? So weird :( Ask @foxbroadcasting I guess? - (3 p.m. EST 4/9/09)

Personally, I think this decision could actually help the show.  Some of the best episodes so far have been written by Tim Minear, the writer of the 12th episode, and that episode deals exclusively with Alpha.  Apparently the 13th episode is more of a standalone episode, the kind that haven’t been quite as good as the others Joss Whedon created.  Check out what E! Online had to say about this decision:

OK, brace yourself, guys, because there’s going to be math in this story.

Fox the television network will not be airing the “13th episode” of Dollhouse, as tweeted by @drhorrible and @feliciaday. However, there appears to be some debate about what qualifies as a 13th episode and what qualifies as a season finale.

Fox the television network ordered 13 episodes of Dollhouse. As everybody knows, they scrapped the original pilot, “Echo.” So that is 13 less one, which brings us down to 12. The 12th and final episode that Fox the television network ordered and paid for and will air is called “Omega” and was written and directed by Tim Minear (who has told us he “can’t wait” for us to see it). Focused on the Alpha storyline, sources say that “Omega” apparently “closes some doors and opens other ones,” and was always intended to be and serves effectively as the season one finale.

A last, and very important, note: According to sources on the network side, them not picking up and airing “Epitaph One” has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not they pick up the series for a second season, a situation which, I’m told, is “100 phase in the decision phase.” You can obviously believe them or not as you choose, but I take them at their word. I may be a sucker like that.

For the full article you can go to E! Online.

Also, let us know in the comments section what you think about this decision.  Is it best to end the season on a strong Alpha episode?  Or would you rather see that 13th episode?

If they decide to bring the show back, I’d be happy with it ending on #12. I quit watching Fox for a long time when the canceled, Tru Calling. I will be bummed if they cancel this one as well.

I’m a bit worried about the show. I’ve had work the last couple of weeks and only dvr’d it. I hated missing the awesome show-n-chat here at Active Dollhouse!

IF and that hopefully is a mighty big bloody “IF”, Fox dumps it, I’m quite done with all things Fox. Not airing the 13th episode may be for good reason, I just hope that reason is a good one. Fox has played with my nerd/geek/fangirl heart too many times for me to trust them fully just yet.

Do you know why I think they aren’t airing the last episodes?
Cuz they are just after money and don’t care AT ALL about their viewers!

I highly doubt they will continue the show for a 2nd season…
and the reason why they are not airing the 13th episode is so that fans like us buy the DVD so they can get richer

but oh well…. I SERIOUSLY hope I am wrong!

To Joss and all the Dollhouse crew….
Please try another network…. give it a go for us fans…

I’ve seen the 13th episode as it aired in Britain and to be honest, I don’t think it was that great. It was REALLY hard to follow and moved between the past and future quite a bit. I think episode 12 was a much more suitable ending that related more to the rest of season 1, and brought it to a good end, but still left room for a season 2.

Epitah one Aired in Australia this week? Why didnt the US get to see it and was that supposed to be the final episode? Im confused now. As i didnt really enjoy or understand epitah one, it seemed a bit rushed and not very well thought out? almost as if the show was directed by a different person? bring back dollhouse for a second season! We love it!
