We’d like to introduce a new feature today on ActiveDollhouse.com.

Joanna Griekspoor is an alternate-reality gamer and has been playing the new Dollhouse viral marketing game.  The goal of the game is to “save Hazel,” a girl trapped in some sort of room that’s tied in to the whole Dollhouse world.  Here’s her first post:

Hazel hasn’t been saved just yet!

Various people have got their claws into the viral marketing campaign called Dollplay, and the main goal is to save a young woman named Hazel. Players from around the globe have pulled together in order to solve the mystery. I myself am one of those people and I must say, the story is unfolding quite nicely. For those who aren’t quite up to speed and would still like to get involved, let me tell you where we are.

Hazel started out confused and anxious, much like I was when I first got to the website. We both had no idea of what was going on, or what we were supposed to do. This resulted in a first wave of awkward ‘interviews’, as the correspondence between Hazel and her helpers is called. Hazel called us out and we apologized to her. In this game, it’s very important to establish a good relationship with the person inside the lab (in this stage, that’s  Hazel).

Soon after, she let us know that she came to the Los Angeles harbor in search for information on her mother, Andrea. She then got locked inside this room and now has no way out. There’s a strange looking device and a chair in the room with her, as well as bullet holes and blood stains on the wall. Right away she’s very adamant about not getting into that chair and using any device.

It was up to us to convince her, because along with the device she found three wedges that have personality imprints stored on them (just like the ones Topher uses on the show, they look like hard drives). These personalities originally belonged to a Dr. A. Rose, Christopher Brink and Eduard Bertucci. After much debate and Google research, we unanimously decided that Hazel was going to have to imprint herself with her mother’s personality. That was the only way to get more information. By helping her through the manual on how to use EWEN (the chair) and CAMERON (the device), she was imprinted with her mother’s personality.

Here’s where we made a mistake. An imprint will only remain for 24 hours, tops. That meant we had to get our information from Andrea Rose quickly and couldn’t go through the process of calming her down and gaining her trust. So we decided to trick her by having someone pretend to be Topher and getting the info the easy way. This completely backfired and she blew up in our faces. What we didn’t know was that Andrea was fully aware that she was an imprint on her daughter Hazel. She then addressed a video to Hazel giving her instructions to destroy the lab, take a gun out of the safe and run at the first opportunity. Oh, and to use her own (Hazel’s) password on the door to get out.

Little does Andrea know that Hazel does not have a password and will not be able to get out. Which is where we come in again. We’ve put our heads together and have decided to come clean and explain that we are only trying to help her daughter.

Meanwhile, we’ve uncovered a lot of history on Hazel, Andrea, Christopher (Topher) and Bertucci. I believe a lot of us are very invested in the story and curious to find out. We do our research and plotting in between videos from the lab and we’re having a lot of fun doing it!

Stay tuned, I’ll keep you updated.
