Who Plays Alpha in Dollhouse?

It’s the big mystery every Joss Whedon fan wants to know… Who plays Alpha in Dollhouse?

We know who plays most of the other characters as you can see on our Dollhouse cast page, and we also just found out that Miracle Laurie now plays Mellie, Agent Paul Ballard’s neighbor, confidante, and possible love interest.  But no one seems to know which actor plays the part of renegade Alpha, the former Active who either went a little crazy or just violently broke away from the leadership ranks of the Dollhouse.  Or based on the Episode 2 trailer, it could be a little bit of both.

The scenes from Episode 1 of Dollhouse with Alpha in them were great at making us wonder who this guy is.  Just don’t leave us in the dark too long, Joss.  We can’t take the suspense any more.

Oh well… at least this Alpha guy gives us a good, mysterious character to wonder about.

Speaking of mystery, how do you think Dr. Claire Saunders (Amy Acker) got those scars? Think Alpha had something to do with that?

Well, why you’re thinking about it… take a look at the images we’ve grabbed of the mysterious Alpha.

I think that Alpha might be Leo, Caroline’s ex -supposely dead- boyfriend, that would explain why Alpha didn’t killed her during his massacre ^^

I completely agree. After watching episode 7 and getting a glimpse of how Echo joined, they could have patched Leo up and made him an offer too.

~edge of my seat, waiting for the next episode. Joss is Boss

No way, her ex was a lot older and skinnier than the guy in the pictures. I’m dying to find out more about him though.

I think that Agent Ballard might be Alpha, planted in the agency to head the Dollhouse investigation so they can manipulate the results of the investigation… just a thought!

I agree with Jenjen because agent Ballard is interested in Caroline/Echo so I think he is getting creepy here plus when he kissed Echo I thought that it was weird because I am used of him kissing Mellie/November

Now I know it is really maybe Alan Tudyk maybe because I am only nine!

If you look closely at the actor portraying “Alpha” in episode 1 (Ghost) and the re-edited clip at the start of episode 2 (The Target), in particular his back as he sits on the table - note any landmark features. Judging from the images, asides the well-defined musculature, his back is on the whole unremarkable; with exception to certain moles (possibly melanocytes) near and on the section covering his scapula, more specifically near the anatomical regions known as the Trapezius and the Rhomboideus major.

Using these visual points of identification alone as a process of elimination, it does not seem plausible that Agent Paul Ballard would be “Alpha”. For comparative analysis, see episode 6 (Man on the Street). However I have noticed the name Sean Maher (actor playing Simon Tam on Firefly and Serenity) being bandied around on various forums. If you look at the ending scenes in Serenity where he consumates his relationship with Jewel Staite (Kaylee), he does appear to have similarly located landmarks…

Please bear in mind that this is merely conjecture and not an attempt to dismiss anyone else’s theories.

    And so the story goes!
